Roll the Dice

In this unit, high school students dive into the world of microelectronics by designing and building a digital dice on a real Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Students mill circuits, solder components, and create innovative prototypes in collaboration with a local microelectronics company. This hands-on project turns classroom learning into real-world experience while exploring the growing opportunities in the rapidly expanding microelectronics industry.

  • Core Content: Engineering Technology

  • Grade Levels: High School

  • ME Connection: Electronic design automation tools, programming microcontrollers, microchip packaging, printed circuit board design and manufacturing, and soldering electronic components.

  • Engineering Design Project: Create a fully-functional digital dice roller on a printed circuit board as a promotional item for a microelectronics packaging company.
