By: Judy Blume
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume follows nine-year-old Peter Hatcher as he navigates life with his mischievous little brother, Fudge, whose chaotic behavior and constant trouble lead to humorous moments and sibling rivalry.
Students will take on the role of engineers as they design a solution to a problem faced by a character in Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Using the engineering design process, students will build and code a micro:bit-based device that addresses the problem, exploring how microcontrollers and sensors can be used to solve real-world challenges.
Core Content: ELA and Computer Science
Grade Levels: Grade 4
Time Required: 2-3 weeks
ME Career Connection: Students use the engineering design process to complete hands-on activities while exploring real-world microelectronics careers, applying problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration to design solutions and see how these skills connect to ME professions.
