Primary AI
PrimaryAI empowers upper-elementary teachers to bring artificial intelligence to life through meaningful, standards-aligned science learning. Co-designed by educators and researchers, it integrates AI literacy, life science, and computational thinking into inquiry-based investigations that help students explore real-world challenges while learning how AI systems perceive, learn, and make decisions. Built on the NGSS and K–12 Computer Science Framework, PrimaryAI provides ready-to-use lessons, hands-on and digital activities, and professional learning supports—making it easy for teachers to guide students in understanding AI as a tool for scientific discovery and problem solving.
PrimaryAI is a collaborative project led by North Carolina State University and Indiana University, designed to help K–12 teachers bring artificial intelligence concepts into elementary science classrooms. Funded through national research initiatives, PrimaryAI integrates AI literacy, life science, and computer science into engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the K–12 Computer Science Framework. The curriculum and teacher resources make it easy to connect real-world science with emerging technologies, preparing students to understand and responsibly engage with AI in the world around them.
