Being involved with SCALE K-12 and NOYCE provides me with the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge technology from expert Purdue faculty, and share that knowledge and understanding with my students, colleagues, and family.

Melanie Gilbert, MS, is a Business Teacher at Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana. She teaches dual-credit courses including Marketing Fundamentals, Principals of Business, and Management Fundamentals. Melanie has worked in a variety of business roles in the Lafayette community and is a licensed Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. She has served as a Teacher Fellow with the SCALE K-12 project since June 2023 and as a Teacher Consultant for the PITCH Summer Program in June of 2024 and 2025.  She views expansion into microelectronics as a valuable opportunity for the community and local economy, as well as an enriching experience for her students. Over the past three years, Melanie has implemented multiple microelectronics lessons in her Marketing Fundamentals class.

Melanie has also enjoyed sharing her microelectronics journey with her family. Both of her sons have participated in microelectronics courses offered by Purdue University. Her oldest son, Andrew, was inspired by these experiences to apply to Purdue and was recently accepted, with plans to study engineering. Her youngest son, Matthew, looks forward to taking additional microelectronics courses once he meets the age requirements and is excited about future employment opportunities in the local microelectronics industry. Melanie’s husband, Brian, is equally enthusiastic about the family’s involvement in microelectronics programs that have provided valuable knowledge and new opportunities.
