Through my work in microelectronics education, I’ve seen firsthand how strengthening U.S. chip manufacturing not only protects our national security but also creates meaningful, high-skill opportunities for our students right here at home.
— Kristen Van Laere

Kristen has spent the past 20 years working in education, building a career that blends technology, teaching, and student mentorship. She began her professional journey at Purdue University, where she worked for ten years in a variety of Information Technology roles. During that time, she gained extensive hands-on experience in IT support, systems management, troubleshooting, and cross-department collaboration.

Six years ago, Kristen transitioned to Lafayette Jefferson High School, a move that has allowed her to combine her technical background with her passion for working directly with students. She currently teaches Business and Information Technology courses, including dual credit classes offered through the local community college. In her classroom, she focuses on helping students develop real-world skills, confidence, and preparation for both college and career pathways.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Kristen serves on the Lafayette School Corporation Integration Team within the Information Technology Department, supporting district-wide technology initiatives and implementation efforts.

Beyond the classroom, she is highly involved in student activities. She coaches multiple Unified sports teams, oversees the Esports program, and steps in wherever she is needed. Kristen is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for students to grow, compete, and feel connected both inside and outside of school.
