Dawn Sargent is a third grade teacher at Glen Acres Elementary School in Lafayette, Indiana. She has been a licensed first-sixth grade Indiana elementary educator for over 30 years. Dawn is a graduate of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana with a BS in Elementary Education. She recently became an Indiana state-licensed educator in the Science of Reading (SOR) and earned her Indiana Early Literacy Endorsement in 2025. Dawn takes pride in being a lifelong learner so she can be the best educator for her students.

Dawn is an innovative educator who has taught in the Lafayette School Corporation for the past fourteen years. In 2025, she was named the Educator of the Year for the Lafayette School Corporation and also received the 2025 e-Learning IGNITE Candace Dodson Technology Innovator Award. Dawn enjoys integrating technology and STEM/microelectronic principles within project-based learning (PBL) in her classroom. She has been a SCALE K-12 Fellow with Purdue University for the past two years. Through the SCALE K-12 program, she has engaged her creativity by co-writing several microelectronics curriculum units that feature interactive lessons focusing on microelectronics technology, as well as the principles of microelectronics.

Dawn recently earned her English Learner (EL) license from Purdue University in 2025. This license better enables her to support learners from diverse language backgrounds. She has worked the past eight summers for the Indiana Migrant Education Program (IMEP), Region 2, as well as in after-school programs to provide individualized attention to all students who needed extra academic support. These efforts reflect not only her work ethic, but her deep belief in doing what is best for every child.
